Bankers' best friend: Newt?  Obama?  Romney?

Wall Street: The Candidate's Friend
Michael Winship, Truthout: "President Obama may talk a good populist game and even kick some corporate butt when he goes on the attack against Wall Street 'fat cats.' Yet he still enjoys the company of bankers ... and for all their grumbling about his policies, the investment community is coming up with significant cash for his re-election; the kind of change they believe in.... Among these ... are employees of big-name firms including Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Barclays and Citigroup."

Gingrich, Romney hit each other over involvement in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

A question from an audience member about the future of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac at Thursday night's CNN debate turned into a slugfest between House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. The two Florida front-runners hit each other over investments and relationships to the mortgage giants taken over by the government at the height of the financial crisis in 2008.

"We should have had a whistle blower not a horn tooter," Romney said about the former House speaker, who worked as an adviser to Freddie Mac, the smaller of the two organizations.

In the aftermath of the Civil War (1861-1865), US law prohibited the use of the US military inside the United States for the maintenance law and order.  Since 2008 that is no longer the case.
LA Police Department Conducts Joint Exercises with the Military
Dan Bacher, AlterNet: "The LA Police Department ... and the U.S. military conducted joint 'tactical exercises' in downtown LA this week. One Black Hawk ... and four OH-6 choppers ... flew over the city during the exercise.... Joint military exercises have also been conducted over Boston, Massachusetts and Little Rock, Arkansas over the past six months.... The exercises become even more ominous when you consider that ... Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) ... allowing indefinite detention to be codified into law."
