13-07-27 NSA, at 3 degrees of separation from true suspects, spies on much larger population than previously admitted

None of this is a real surprise.
In 2010, several months after escaping from the US, I was lecturing in a Data Mining intenational computer science conference.
As it turned out, the conference was heavily sponsored by IBM.  The IBM rep, was the Director of IBM Research Center in Ireland.  He was former Russian math professor. His specialty - Graph Theory.  His project, which he described only in vague terms, was applying state of the art mathematical tools for analyzing Big Data from social networks and other communication sources.
Others in the same conference were presenting research based on analysis of Facebook chats and messages, which were provided to them by Facebook for "research purposes".
Anybody with brains had to suspect that all these people were involved, one way or another with the security apparatus.
On the other hand, there were some presenations from the other side:  My lectures were on data mining of court and prison records in the United States, documenting the corruption of the state and federal courts and abuse of the people through state organized computer crimes.  A guy from Poland detailed data mining of police communications... :)

The NSA Admits It Analyzes More People's Data Than Previously Revealed

As an aside during testimony on Capitol Hill today, a National Security Agency representative rather casually indicated that the government looks at data from a universe of far, far more people than previously indicated.
Chris Inglis, the agency's deputy director, was one of several government representatives—including from the FBI and the office of the Director of National Intelligence—testifying before the House Judiciary Committee this morning. Most of the testimony largely echoed previous testimony by the agencies on the topic of the government's surveillance, including a retread of the same offered examples for how the Patriot Act and Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act had stopped terror events.
But Inglis' statement was new. Analysts look "two or three hops" from terror suspects when evaluating terror activity, Inglis revealed. Previously, the limit of how surveillance was extended had been describedas two hops. This meant that if the NSA were following a phone metadata or web trail from a terror suspect, it could also look at the calls from the people that suspect has spoken with—one hop. And then, the calls that second person had also spoken with—two hops. Terror suspect to person two to person three. Two hops. And now: A third hop.
Think of it this way. Let's say the government suspects you are a terrorist and it has access to your Facebook account. If you're an American citizen, it can't do that currently (with certain exceptions)—but for the sake of argument. So all of your friends, that's one hop. Your friends' friends, whether you know them or not—two hops. Your friends' friends' friends, whoever they happen to be, are that third hop. That's a massive group of people that the NSA apparently considers fair game.
For a sense of scale, researchers at the University of Milan found in 2011 that everyone on the Internet was, on average, 4.74 steps away from anyone else. The NSA explores relationships up to three of those steps. (See our conversation with the ACLU's Alex Abdo on this.)
Inglis' admission didn't register among the members of Congress present, but immediately resonated with privacy advocates online.

13-07-27 Jefferson on judicial corruption

Image: Thomas Jefferson. White House Collection
From a letter to William T Barry, of July 2, 1822:

...
Let the future appointments of judges be for four or six years, and renewable by the President and Senate. This will bring their conduct, at regular periods, under revision and probation, and may keep them in equipoise between the general and special governments. We have erred in this point, by copying England, where certainly it is a good thing to have the judges independent of the King. But we have omitted to copy their caution also, which makes a judge removable on the address of both legislative Houses. That there should be public functionaries independent of the nation, whatever may be their demerit, is a solecism in a republic, of the first order of absurdity and inconsistency.

13-07-27 US: The president as a puppet

As if it was not clear all along...

Schematic Diagram of the current US Regime

Robert Mueller III

FBI Director - The Omnipotent
  • Overstays the tenure of 10 years, Obama was unable to unseat him.
  • Publicized the investigation by FBI of President Elect Obama
  • Swiftly deposed Obama's appointed CIA Director
  • Decided in 2008 that there was no criminality in the US banking system, and no matter how many US Congress committees would show the opposite, prevents any prosecution of criminal bankers.

Former CIA Director Petraeus; Current Direct Brennan

CIA Director - At the discretion of the Omnipotent
  • In a uniquely elegant move, the Omnipotent eliminated Petraeus after one year in office, through an FBI agent, acting as a whistleblower against FBI!!! The first time in a couple of decades that a whistleblower got his mission accomplished, and suffered no retaliation... :)
  • The office of CIA Director is by now compromised through the change of four persons in office in less than three years.
...
...

Obama, or whoever he is

President - At the mercy of the Omnipotent; teleprompter-fed, performs on cue.
  • A president, who stays in office, while presenting to the people fraudulent personal identification documents is at the mercy of the FBI.
  • Is likely to have been operated by CIA at some point, but was never in a command position at CIA, unlike Bush I, who rose to the top of CIA, and then changed office to the White House.

13-07-27 US: Preparing for war with China...

A few years after the Soviet Union collapsed, Edward Teller advocatd mega-budgets for war against atroids, which may hit planet earth. The rationale - need to justify continuously increasing military-industrial budgets. And a Hollywood movie to match was even produced...
There is always a need to invent new schemes for mega-budgets for the military-industrial coplex, even if the scheme is ludicrous/suicidal...
Thank god China still acts as the responsible adult on the scene, wthen the US has turned into a delinquent juvenile.

The Two Faux Democracies Threaten Life On Earth

 -   Amitai Etzioni has raised an important question: “Who authorized preparations for war with China?” http://yalejournal.org/2013/06/12/who-authorized-preparations-for-war-with-china/ Etzioni says that the war plan is not the sort of contingency plan that might be on hand for an improbable event. Etzioni also reports that the Pentagon’s war plan was not ordered by, and has not been reviewed by, US civilian authorities. We are confronted with a neoconized US military out of control endangering Americans and the rest of the world.

Etzioni is correct that this is a momentous decision made by a neoconized military. China is obviously aware that Washington is preparing for war with China. If the Yale Journal knows it, China knows it. If the Chinese government is realistic, the government is aware that Washington is planning a pre-emptive nuclear attack against China. No other kind of war makes any sense from Washington’s standpoint. The “superpower” was never able to occupy Baghdad, and after 11 years of war has been defeated in Afghanistan by a few thousand lightly armed Taliban. It would be curtains for Washington to get into a conventional war with China.

When China was a primitive third world country, it fought the US military to a stalemate in Korea. Today China has the world’s second largest economy and is rapidly overtaking the failing US economy destroyed by jobs offshoring, bankster fraud, and corporate and congressional treason.

The Pentagon’s war plan for China is called “AirSea Battle.” The plan describes itself as “interoperable air and naval forces that can execute networked, integrated attacks-in-depth to disrupt, destroy, and defeat enemy anti-access area denial capabilities.”

Yes, what does that mean? It means many billions of dollars of more profits for the military/security complex while the 99 percent are ground under the boot. It is also clear that this nonsensical jargon cannot defeat a Chinese army. But this kind of saber-rattling can lead to war, and if the Washington morons get a war going, the only way Washington can prevail is with nuclear weapons. The radiation, of course, will kill Americans as well.

13-07-27 US: Government of the People, by the People, for the People

My understanding of the term "of the People, by the People, for the People", derived from a constitution of the Conneticut Colony and written by the Rev Hooker, is that it was meant to clarify the term "democracy", which can also be understood as 'control of the People".
The report below shows how far removed the current US government is from  'of the People, by the People, for the People'.
As for the track record of former Marines, we have Occupy Marines on the positive side, but we also have former Marines, who betrayed their oath, like FBI Director Rober Mueller III...

Shocking 'Extermination' Fantasies By the People Running America's Empire on Full Display at Aspen Summit

Security Forum participants expressed total confidence in American empire, but could not contain their panic at the mention of Snowden.
July 25, 2013  |

Seated on a stool before an audience packed with spooks, lawmakers, lawyers and mercenaries, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer introduced recently retired CENTCOM chief General James Mattis. “I’ve worked with him and I’ve worked with his predecessors,” Blitzer said of Mattis. “I know how hard it is to run an operation like this.”
Reminding the crowd that CENTCOM is “really, really important,” Blitzer urged them to celebrate Mattis: “Let’s give the general a round of applause.”
Following the gales of cheering that resounded from the room, Mattis, the gruff 40-year Marine veteran who once volunteered his opinion that “it’s fun to shoot some people,” outlined the challenge ahead. The “war on terror” that began on 9/11 has no discernable end, he said, likening it to the “the constant skirmishing between [the US cavalry] and the Indians” during the genocidal Indian Wars of the 19th century.
